An interesting video recently published by the Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council looks at current views of Australian manufacturing and finds that perceptions linger of a dirty, mass, industrial, production line environment.
Whilst the reality certainly differs, and a quick look at the FORM2000 video showcasing our Melbourne sheet metal factory will attest to this, bridging the perception gap will be no small challenge.
The Council substantially reinforces that Australia’s future industry success lies in innovation and advanced manufacturing, pointing to the success of over 2,500 identified manufacturers currently operating in high tech fields in Australia.
Interestingly, however, the Council identifies that Australia is currently ranked no. 2 in the World in terms of ability to solve complex problems with a strong Research & Development (R&D) capability. However, we rank no. 116 in the World in terms of commercialisation of ideas.
Just how do we bridge that gap to ensure that our ideas are harnessed to the betterment of industry development and jobs growth in Australia?
We’d be interested in your thoughts.
